Abstract

Arsenic found in contaminated saltwater has very serious side effects. Purba Medinipur was free of arsenic until 2009. Present study verifies whether the coastal areas of Purba Medinipur, after 2009, were arsenic contaminated. From Contai, Digha, and Egra regions, 97 bore wells were selected to collect groundwater samples and analyze arsenic contamination. Few areas have shown the presence of arsenic in groundwater. However, the concentration in many areas is found to be below the permissible limit of drinking water.
