Abstract

Vigna unguiculata, a member of the family Fabaceae is grown nearly all parts of the India and has attained a prime position in the pulse economy of the country. Blight disease of Vigna unguiculata caused by Alternaria sp is a most destructive disease posing a serious threat to its production. To formulate suitable eco-friendly management strategy through integration of compatible fungicides, biocides with bio-agents against the disease, in vitro and field studies were conducted. Among the bioagents, Trichoderma viride showed maximum inhibition (88%) effect against pathogen. Six plant extracts are evaluated, mong them Azadirachta indica showed most promising effect. Among six fungicides, Bavistin had shown its superiority in inhibiting vegetative growth of the pathogen. Under field trials, T. viride + Neem extract + Bavistin combination showed best performance in the year 2014 (100%) but in the 2013 the same combination showed 80% reduction of infection under field. So this combination can be recommended as a integrated disease management strategy being the safest and eco-friendly pragmatic strategy for the management of the blight disease of Vigna unguiculata.
