Abstract

The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) conducts multidisciplinary programme of scientific research and advanced engineering for development of sodium - cooled Fast Breeder Reactor (FBR) technology in India. In the early days of IGCAR, the emphasis was on construction of a sodium - cooled 40 MWt Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR) and its operation. With the experience and expertise gained by the successful operation of FBTR, design and construction of 500 MWe Prototype Fast B re ed e r Reactor (PFBR) has now been embarked upon.
