Abstract

Straws constitute one of the major ingredients of the rations for ruminants, in India. Various reports  indicate that sodium hydroxide spray treatment of Toughages developed by Wilson and Pigden improves the nutritive value of straws. Lime is a cheaper source of alkali and is easier to handle.
