Abstract

The book 'Implications of Declining Sex Ratio in India's Population'by Asok Mitra is giving a vivid picture of the changing trend of the sex ratio in India's Population since 1931. He has done a careful analytical research in this important field. The ICSSR/JNU Project on the analysis and utilisation of census and related data (1872-1971) has provided him an opportunity to start his investigation in depth at the level of the district. He has analysed the effects of recurrent famines from the middle of the nineteenth century.
