Abstract

The important biological functions performed by many trace metals (i.e. calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, copper and iron) in the pregnant woman, fetus and new born have been recognised for long. The levels of these trace metals in cord and maternal blood that have been measured by various investigators are summarized in Table I.
