Abstract

Zumba is a moderate to high intensity workout which involves music and consistent body movements. The present study compared and assessed body composition, fitness levels and nutritional status of women performing Zumba and other selected aerobic exercises. Sixty female participants aged 20-35 years were assessed and grouped as a control group, Experimental Group 1 (EG1) and Experimental Group 2 (EG2). All assessments were conducted using standard methods. It was observed that women who choose Zumba had normal Body Mass Index (BMI) (23.32 ± 3.76) and body fat percentage of 31.06 ± 3.76 %. Statistically significant results were seen for fitness analysis. Cardiorespiratory fitness test for group Zumba (EG1) was assessed at 40.96 ± 4.31 ml/kg/min and flexibility test at 19.46 ± 3.37 inches. Dietary results showed that intake was caloric deficient and high fat diet in all groups. The study results indicate that Zumba fitness exercise can be recommended as effective group fitness exercise for the changes in body composition and fitness levels of women.
