Abstract

Protein Energy Malnutrition (PEM) or Protein Calorie Malnutrition (PCM) is a widespread nutritional disease in the developing countries and is the most prevalent form of malnutrition in young children. Kwashiorkor and marasmus are the clinical consequences of PEM. Kwashiorkor is the edematous form of PEM and is distinguished from marasmus by the presence of edema, hypoalbuminemla and dermatosis.
