Abstract

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is an Indian spice, which has conquered the ethnic borders of South-East Asia as a culinary delight, which imparts a pleasant yellow colour always associated with Indian curry and imparts a pleasant smell to the recipe. Turmeric has been used through ages as part of our food as a preservative, as an additive and flavoring and coloring spice. It is found to have extensive use in auspicious ritual as a horbinger of glad tidings that mere touching and smearing of turmeric powder brings health benefits. That is why offering turmeric has been a widely used practice in India.
