Abstract

Elderly are generally the people above the age of 60. It is estimated that there would be 620 million people over 60 years by 2000 A.D. in the world. More than half of the world's elderly people are in the developing countries and India currently ranks fourth among the countries which have a large elderly population in absolute numbers.
