Abstract

Polymer composites can be fabricated easily from the combination of resin and reinforcement. One of the most important advantages of polymer composite is their lightness and higher specific strength. It requires much lower amount of energy for the fabrication of polymer composite; thus economizes the energy requirement for the industry and encourage sustainable development program. A short account is given here to show the role of sandwich structures in diverse areas of applications for technological gain. Composite structures of larger dimension for engineering applications can be designed with the help of honeycomb sandwich structure. This article highlights the contribution of different types of polymer composites in various areas of applications to help maintain environment friendly ambience. Construction of energy efficient green building structures, development of synthetic wood to help contribute for the conservation of forest resources, and for that matter, construction of conduits and allied engineering items for rainwater harvesting program to help restore water resource are some of the important areas of applications where different types of composite materials Uke FRP sandwich structures, miaosphere filled syntactic foam and polymer concrete can be very useful.
