Abstract

Sir Asutosh was destined to revolutionise the field of institutional education could be guessed from his childhood behavior. At the very first day of schooling, he criticized the uncongenial environment of learning. Besides his academic brilliance and keen power of observation, his intense desire to be associated with the learned community of the University even forgoing a lucrative and secured Government Service was indicative of his noble destiny. His exceptional creative talent, his managerial and administrative capability along with high patriotic values in life, made him a prudent educational reformer. In fact, he transcended his time and could foresee the future of education, properly mingled with the Western concepts and ideas, would be the proper weapon to fight out the menace of subjugation of the land. His attitude of toil and struggle was exemplary for the future educational leaders. It is simply awe-inspiring to us that in so hostile and uncongenial environment he could steer his wise plans to success.
