Abstract

Weldbonding of mild steel sheets was earned out by adhesive joining followed by resistance spot welding of two pieces. Finally the joint was cured at different temperatures and times. The spot welding was earned out at different welding currents and weid times. Conventional resistance spot weld ana normal adhesive joints of the mild steel were also prepared. The normal adhesive joints were used to optimise the curing schedule. The microstructure, hardness, ultimate shear tensile load carrying capacity and fatigue life of the weldbond and resistance spot weld were studied and compared. The weldbonding was found to improve the strength and fatigue life of the joint considerably in comparison to those obsen/ed in the case of conventional resistance spot weld.
