Abstract

Present report describes ovarian toxicity of benzene in rat. Effects of benzene in ovary of rat have been attributed to increased lipid peroxidation, alterations in progesterone values and activity of CYP^^^EI. Histopathological observations confirm ovarian toxicity of benzene. Number ofprimodial follicles decreased after benzene treatment. Cortex, medulla and corpus luteum also exhibited pathological changes. It is concluded that female reproductive system is vulnerable to benzene. Since a number of female workers are exposed to organic solvents like benzene through their work environment, present obsen/ations are important from occupational health point of view
