Abstract

Eri silk worm, Phylosamia ricini , is a polyphagous lipidopteran insect which feeds on a wide range on host plants, cultivated or naturally grown all over India. Castor ( Ricinus communis ) is the primary host plant but there are a number of secondary host plants belonging to the families, Euphorbiaceae, Simaroubaceae, Rutaceae and Caricaceae which are extensively used for eri rearing in India. The local names and distribution of these plants are provided.
