Abstract

The orthoptic of a plane curve C is the locus of the intersection of perpendicular tangents to it. Taking such a pair of tangents as a set of moving axes, I obtain expressions (6) and (8) for the curvature of the orthoptic. From these are deduced certain characteristic properties of curves whose orthoptics are straight lines.
