Abstract

Planets in orbit around other stars, other than the sun, have just begun to be discovered, in the past few years. So far, a few hundred have been discovered. We're only able right now to investigate the stars that are relatively near us, in our galaxy. Looking for planets in other galaxies is going to remain impossible for a long, long time. Consider that Pluto, right here in our own solar system, wasn't found until about 80 years ago. Also, consider that from our point of view on Earth, a giant planet in orbit around another star appears the size of something like a dime coin in Los Angeles as seen from New York ... and plus it's a dark body right next to a star!
