Abstract

A series of large waves of very long wavelength as well as long period produced by impulsive disturbance m the sea, specially near the coast is termed as tsunami The word tsunami is a Japanese word m which tsu - stands for harbour and nami for wave Tsunami i e , harbour waves may be generated by earthquake, volcanic eruptions or underwater landslides but have nothing to do with astronomical tides caused by the influences of the sun, moon oi other planets
