Abstract
The health of people is affected to a large extent by the food they eat. Adolescents have high requirements for energy and nutrients for growth, maintenance and increased physical activity. The secondary school age in Nigeria (11 - 1 8 years) covers the adolescent period. This period is characterised by the stage of rapid growth and the spurt in growth, where intensive anabolic activity, marked by a rise in hormone activity, result in a number of physical changes responsible for the growth of new tissues and reproductive organs. Any nutritional deprivation during this period results in a compromise in their growth and intellectual potentials.Downloads
