A study was carried out to assess the socio-economic status of the fishermen engaged in fishing in the Ramnagar-II development block of Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal. The study deals with the migrant people of the traditional landing centres, use of crafts and gears and their type, frequencies of various species of fish and their percentage of landing, income level, education, etc. Certain remedial measures to be taken to elevate the socio-economic condition of the fisher folk have also been pointed out.Downloads
