Abstract

This work is a generalisation of the work of Russell (1928), Kopal (1938), Cowling (1938), and Sterne (1939) in the sense that the attitude motions of the two bodies are not prescribed. It is also a generalisation of Brouwer's 1946 work in the sense that neither the eccentricity nor the lean angles are assumed small; and it is a generalisation of the work of Johnson and Kane (1969) in the sense that one of the rigid bodies is taken here an ellipsoid, instead of both being spheroids.
