In [3], T. T. Frankel has applied Morse theory to the classical groups (i.e., SO(n), U(n); Sp(n)) and related the Poincare polynomials of these groups to those of the Grassmannians (i.e., real Gn, k, complex Wn, k, quaternionic Qn,k).
