Abstract

In this volume of the Annual Review of Biochemistry, we have the privilege of sharing the thrilling experiences of Baird Hastings. In his 'Anabasis' he tells us how he started his career as a physical chemist later became a physiological chemist and ultimately came to be recognised as a biochemist.
